Grandmillennial Style: Your Go-To Guide

It's been called the "Jackie O" of interior styles, and we couldn't agree more! Grand-Millennial (aka "Granny Chic") is all the rage lately; but what we love about this style is that it's not just another passing trend. Rather, it's a fresh take on a traditional style that is both elegant and timeless. But, before you run out to the antique store to recreate your grandmother's living room, let's walk through the best ways to embrace this traditional decor while still making it young, bright & fun.

1. Embrace the Mix: The key here is to mix old and new in a way that feels fresh and adds nods to your personality.

The Old: Fringe, Scalloped Edges, Velvets, Dark wood tones, Vintage China, Vintage Rugs, Pleated Lampshades, Floral Wallpaper, Rattan, Monograms

The New: Abstract art, Rich Jewel Tones, Bold Lighting, High Gloss Paint, a Neutral Upholstered Piece

2. Consider Color Palette:

Monochromatic or Analogous color schemes work best. Keep it tight and consistent. Start with a color you love and either choose various shades of that same color (dark pink, blush, rose) OR colors that appear next to each other on the color wheel (blue, purple, fuchsia.)

This will keep the focus on the decor & layered fabrics in the space and prevent the room from feeling too busy and cluttered.

3. Curate Carefully: Though this style does encourage adding accessories & furnishings, you still want your home to feel intentional. If you've been handed down family heirlooms, be selective in what you choose to display. A little goes a long way. If everything is used, then nothing seems truly special. Give those pieces that you love a place of honor and let them take center stage. Then layer in modern elements that help to highlight their beauty.

Even if you're not the beneficiary of a treasure trove of vintage pieces, you can still pull off this style with a little savvy shopping. Try: Society Social, Serena & Lily, De Gournay, Offerup, and Chairish, Anthropologie, The Inside, One Kings Lane, and Etsy for a few signature pieces to get you started.

4. Finally, don't be afraid to be different: You can finally decorate with what YOU love; not what glossy catalogs hope that you'll love.

"I think this style is so successful because it's just so fun and full of personality. It liberates you to make design choices and create a space that is anything but sterile and cookie-cutter. This grand style encourages you to be different, and I think, especially today, that speaks to a lot of people."

Cheers to the new and the old & the perfect combination of them both!
