Five Tips For A Fabulous Foyer

A foyer: foy·er|\ ˈfȯi(-ə)r, ˈfȯi-ˌ(y)āalso ˈfwä-ˌyā\

It's the first introduction to your home.

The greeting.

The handshake.

The room that welcomes guests and gives that lasting first impression. Though often overlooked, it's one of the most important spaces to decorate with intention and attention to detail.

We want you to be able to throw open your doors to family and friends knowing that that first space they enter is a reflection of you and also of how much you care about them.

1. Mix traditional and modern elements to give your home a truly collected, curated feel.

*Think your Grandmother's antique chest with an upholstered settee in a fresh fabric.

2. Appeal to all 5 senses:

Smell: fresh flowers or a signature candle scent

Touch: Layered rugs or organic elements

Sound: Add a great runner to the stairs to soften the echos in the home or have your favorite spotify playlist at the ready for guests arrival

Taste: In true southern style, a candy bowl is always a fun touch of whimsy. (It'll give your guests something to remember too. One of my favorite homes to visit growing up, always had a vintage bowl full of PINK starburst!) Now that's attention to detail, wouldn't you say?

3. Set the tone for your home: this space gives guests a preview of your unique style and ushers them into the rest of the home. It should feel cohesive and leave them wanting to see more.

4. Make it both functional and beautiful. Make it work for your family. Have a tray for keys, a pretty box for phones (b/c we love the "drop the phone at the door" rule), seating to put on shoes, and a mirror for one last check before you walk out.

5. Use this space wisely: don't over-clutter; but surfaces in the foyer are a great place to display family heirlooms, beautifully framed photographs, or artwork that you would love to see every day.

Most importantly, make sure this space makes you smile every time you enter it!

Don't worry too much about what everyone else will think; b/c if it reminds them of you, it'll be a winner for SURE!

Happy decorating!
