Today we're sharing one of the simplest ways to update your home.... a lighting refresh! A well thought out lighting plan can make the difference between an inviting space and one that just falls flat. Sometimes, though, the hardest part can be choosing that ever-illusive perfect fixture or lamp. Today, we're rounding up some of our very favorites from Generation Lighting and sharing our quick tips for selecting the right sizes and hanging at the perfect height.

Table Lamps:
Layering lighting across different levels of the room is our favorite way to make a space feel warm and cozy. Table lamps are our favorite way to bring the ambiance when overhead lights are not needed.
Undecided about size? A good rule of thumb is to choose a lamp where the bottom of the shade is at your eye level when seated.
Buffet or console lights can be taller.
Here you can aim for a combined height of 58-64" (console + lamp height)
Chandelier & Pendants
One of the most common questions we get is: "How high should I hang my kitchen pendants"
Typically, we suggest hanging them 30-35" above your island.
6" from either end of the island and space about 30" apart from each other.
Dining chandeliers should ideally hang about 30-32" from the top of the table and be 1/2 to 3/4 width of your table. (We usually select fixtures at the larger end of this range.)
Sconces
When installing sconces on either side of the vanity, it's best to install bathroom sconces between 60”-65” from the floor. The height of the sconce should land just around eye level, preventing unflattering shadows or harsh glares.
Additional Lighting: Floor Lamps, Lanterns & Flush Mounts
Lastly, remember that less is more when it comes to lighting. We love mixing metals; but aim to keep the style consistent throughout your home. Too many different styles can get confusing and miss the mark on the cozy, chic atmosphere you're aiming for. Our best advice: keep it simple and consistent.
And that's a wrap!
